Role Title: Head of Marketing & Communications

Role Description:  The Head of Marketing and Communications is central to the operation of the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival. In the past, responsible for design, management, concept development, and communicating the vision of the festival to the public, this role will now be responsible for overseeing other members of the marketing team responsible for the roles listed above.

The Head of Marketing and Communications will work very closely with the Festival Director to communicate the identity of the festival to the public and our varied membership.

The role can be thought of within two major periods, the festival period and the year-round period. Both programmes require careful curation, planning, and execution to communicate clearly the key messages and tone of each element of the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival (ESAF).

The Head of Marketing and Communication will be responsible for the largest team in the Edinburgh Student Arts Festival (ESAF), and will allow the individual to drive the creative direction (with the support of the Director) of the festival and its marketing materials.

Main tasks:

o  Design the annual marketing strategy for the festival and the year-round programme;
o  Implement and shape ESAF’s identity each year, enabling it to create a new marketing campaign for each festival that stays true to the organisation’s identity but provides a fresh take on its messaging;
o  Writing design briefs for new campaigns.

o  Managing designers given briefs to create elements of new campaigns;
o  Managing a team of volunteers within the marketing team to complete their work;
o  Running and chairing marketing team meetings;
o  Supporting new members of the marketing team with any new work they take on;
o  Acting as a sounding board for new ideas and making sure to foster an environment of open-mindedness, innovative thinking, and creativity to ensure new ideas come to the organisation.

o  Managing an annual budget and overseeing the work of budget holders with the marketing team;
o  Not spending any amount over 500 GBP without getting approval from the ESAF Director;
o  Delegating smaller budgets to members of the team for project work.

o  Designing systems for file sharing, social media content, website content, and documents sharing within the marketing team and/or the wider organisation.

o  Attend executive team meetings and contribute to the overall strategic planning of organisation as a whole;
o  Report directly to the ESAF Director;
o  Take responsibility for overall management of organisational finances;
o Agree to work in a team setting to maintain the organisation’s reputational, business viability and management;
o  Subscribe to the organisation’s key social values;
o  Act on behalf of the organisation and agree to be driven by the organisation’s wider values and do not act for the benefit of any individual.
